The Cadet movement motto is to foster in the youth of the country better citizenship, leadership, athletic fitness and an interest in the Sea element of the Canadian Forces.
We commit to develop in each and every Sea Cadet the qualities of leadership and an aspiration to become a valued member of his/her community.  We reinforce values necessary to prepare youth to meet the challenges of tomorrow and to embrace the multicultural dimensions of Canada.  In order to meet these challenges a number of programs take place that include such items as basic drill, ceremonial drill, sailing (follows the Canadian Yachting Association program, from basic sail to advanced instructor levels).  There is also outdoor adventure training, music, swimming, seamanship and firearm safety and marksmanship programs.

The Cadet Program also has a direct impact on Canadian society as a whole. There is definite value in having well-rounded, community-minded, experienced young people who are ready to assume their places as tomorrow’s leaders and decision-makers.

The Cadet Program offers many exciting opportunities to its members. Cadets work hard and earn a variety of rewards in return for their commitment, dedication and participation. Summer training, international travel, scholarships, bursaries, school credits, trophies and certificates are just a few of the many attractive rewards available to cadets.

"Many people think of Cadets as preparation for a career in the military, but it is really about preparing for life; about developing the skills, the qualities and the confidence that will allow these young people to prosper and contribute to the Canada of tomorrow."

-Art Eggleton, former Minister of National Defense
